Hives that made it through the Winter -

If you had hives that made it thru the winter, and can share what you did to help them, please put that information here. It may be helpful when preparing for next winter.

I wrapped with tar paper and used fondant. I use ventilated hive covers year round but insulate them in the winter. The upper cover has an entrance which, IMO moves moisture out rather than it collecting on the top cover. On a sunny day I could look into the upper entrance and see them eating the fondant and could monitor whether they were still alive. Honey run apiaries sells the ventilated hive covers plus the insulation.
