The meeting is on Monday June 16th at:

Delaware Township office
9090 East 131st Street
Fishers, IN 46038

Here are the topics for Monday's meeting (although sometime the discussion takes off on a tangent)

What Should be Happening now?
Hive Problems
Honey Bound
Splits
Watching for hive Beetles and Mites
Honey extracting - When to extract?
Brief Example of Refractometer purpose and Use
Types of Bottles and Jars
Types of Labes, Labeling requirements and where to get them
And as always Meeting with Fellow BeeKeepers

It sounds like you want to do a "split", which is one of the topics for Monday!

Also, make sure you sign-in when you get to the meeting and include your email address so that you can get the future meeting notices via email

Post up any other questions here or in the appropriate section.

As it has turned out, most of my neighbors love the bees. They see it as a way of keeping the bee population growing and they are quite fascinated with the entire process. Plus, a single hive doesn't allow the bee population to get out of hand. I just tell them: Stay away from the hive and there will be no problems whatsoever.

We did not take any honey last year from the first season with a new brood. And the hive did amazingly well over one of the most brutal winters that I can remember. This year, we will be harvesting honey, the hive is quite full right now.

I want to start a second hive and would love to learn more about how to do this. I will try to make the meeting this month. What streets is the Delaware Township office near? Major intersection would be good.

I'm really looking forward to the honey harvest.

I am very new to beekeeping and have a question that I am hoping that someone can answer for me. I have had my first hive set up and bees installed for about 3 weeks now. I fear that I have made a mistake by setting up the hive with 2 brood boxes and no supers to start. I started with package bees and did my first inspection to make sure that the queen was released after about 5 days. The second inspection was done today and it appears that the bees have been extremely busy laying, storing, etc. as at least 3-4 of the frames are already nearly full. The bees are all in the top hive body with none in the lower......I was wondering if I should keep the hive as is or should I remove the bottom hive body and just leave the top part, or should I switch the top and bottom hive bodies so that they build up? I plan on attending meetings in the future and probably should find a mentor. Any answers and help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Scott

It was great to be at the meeting last night. I was able to meet a couple of people and ask some questions. I went home and read through a book and am looking to build a hive in the next couple of weeks. I'm in the Fishers area and would be thrilled to observe someone inspecting a hive or doing any other work with the bees really I suppose. I've not had a chance to get up close with bees yet and would be happy to be somewhat familiar with some of the basics before I start my own hive. Anyway, feel free to shoot me a message or respond to this post if you wouldn't mind me tagging along. Thanks!
